The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly yesterday 24/10/19 held a maiden ‘Meet the Press Session’ with Journalists in the Northern region.
The Assembly at the press encounter outlined government programmes, and projects being implemented in the municipality.
The Chief Executive of the assembly, Hajia Mariam Iddrisu addressing the media personnel said, the assembly has improved in several areas inline with the Akuffo Addo government agenda to make Ghana a better place, this according to her includes education, health, agriculture, youth development and employment.
The unmatched Chief Executive officer in the Northern region, Hajia Mariam stated emphatic that, though the Akuffo Addo government inherited an economy that was in distress and choke by debt, but several projects has been carried out in the municipality, with many youth benefiting from the social intervention programmes.
According to her, the Sagnarigu municipality can boost of thirteen basic classroom block projects, which are currently in use, adding that construction of six classroom block projects are ongoing at some selected communities in the municipality.
She said, additional three unit classroom school block projects have been awarded from the internal generated funds(IGF) of the assembly, the projects according to her aims at making quality education easily accessible to all children of school going age.
Hajia Mariam mentioned that, the assembly is in the process of constructing clinics at Kogni, Shishegu, Zagyuri, Katariga communities from different funding sources, with one clinic at Gburimah been completed. To her, the assembly has donated ten hospital beds to the district health directorate to help advance healthcare system in the municipality.
She revealed that, forty one (41) students in the municipality has benefited from a support grant of GHc80,050.65 to further their education under the Ghana scholarship secretariat.
According to her, under the plating for food and jobs more people have been enroll onto the programme. “What even makes me happy is that youth and women are now more interested in the programme than before when we started it in 2017”.
“On free senior high school, we have gotten 18% more enrolment, over thousand children have been enrolled as compare to 2016 academic year, so base on the president agenda not to leave any child behind, Sagnarigu municipality we are equally not leaving our children behind”.
She noted that, the four senior high school in the municipality has experienced tremendous influx of students since the inception and implementation of the Free Senior High School programme by the government.
Hajia Mariam revealed that, about one thousand, eight hundred (1,800) graduate youth within the municipality had benefited from NABCo. One hundred and thirty(130) youth benefiting from the youth employment agency (NYA), and over five hundred (500) youth been engage in forestation.
“In the Sagnarigu municipality a total of 128 youth since 2017 have been engaged in three modules namely youth in sports, community protection personnel and Arabic instructors”.
She used the opportunity, and commended media personnel in the region for their precise reportage for the past years, and however appealed for further cordial working relation.
She further urged the media to continue propagating the good work of the Akuffo Addo government.
Meanwhile the Northern regional correspondent of Atinka tv/fm, Ibrahim Nurudeen Naporo told NorthernWebGh.com that, the encounter was interactive and well attended by senior members from the ink fraternity.
The Sagnarigu municipality was one of the six created assemblies in the Northern region of Ghana in 2012. It was created out of the Tamale metropolis by legislative instrument 2066 in the first half of the 2012. It was inaugurated as a functional entity on the 24th of June, 2012.
